Tan Xiang (Sandal Wood)

Santalum Album; Lignum Santati albi

Tan Xiang is also known as Bai Tan Xiang and Huang Tan Xiang. All three names refer to Sandal Wood. Tan Xiang is one herb in a group of aromatic woods that are relatively important in their function to regulate normal circulation in the body. Used primarily for cold, painful stagnation, this herb figures in to the occasional dit da jow recipe, but is less often used than Mu Xiang for example, due to its higher cost.
